Michael Redden               Michael Redden

Originally from Billings, Montana, Michael Redden attended both The UMKC Conservatory of Music and The Western Iowa Tech Piano Technology Program. He began his studies in keyboard tuning at the age of sixteen (1972) when, after constructing  his first Flemish harpsichord, he started working with  ancient and modern temperaments.
Owen Jorgensen's research on historical temperaments and the recordings of Joseph Payne, Anthony Newman, Igor Kipnis, Thurston Dart, among others, helped provide additional direction. Countless hours of practice devoted to aural tuning helped refine the art.

Thanks to the many fine piano technicians with whom he worked, Michael was able to get further instruction in piano technology. The local Steinway and Yamaha dealer provided him the opportunity to service new instruments and tune for performances. They also helped make it possible to receive piano factory training for the first time.

In the mid-eighties, Michael moved to the Philadelphia area and continued to work with dealers, universities, concert and recording venues. Over the years he has had the pleasure of tuning for world-renowned concert artists and musical organizations, but still enjoys visiting the homes of piano owners, teachers and students to help provide them with service as well.

Besides listening to and playing music, some of his other interests include gardening, literature, art, travel and, of course, spending time with his family!
